On 10 December 2016, a charity concert under the name "Music Does Wonders" was held at the Baltic Philharmonic. The event was a part of a series of concerts taking place annually since 2014, all proceeds from which go to the paediatric surgery ward at the Medical University of Gdańsk. BSJP is proud to support the cause each year.
So far, three stars of opera music performed in Gdańsk to support the initiative - Simone Kermes (Germany) in 2014, Vivica Genaux (USA) in 2015, and in 2016 - Vesselina Kassarova, a Bulgarian mezzo-soprano of world renown. The lead soloist of the Zurich Opera performed for the Tricity public in the company of the PFB Orchestra conducted by Rudolf Weikert.
The person behind the idea is prof. Piotr Czauderna, chairman of the Association for Support of Child Surgery Patients.
The proceeds from the concert are each year donated for the purchase of medical instruments for the patients of the Department of Paediatric and Adolescent Surgery and Urology at the Medical University of Gdańsk, in particular for further lease of the 3-D visual track for minimal invasive surgeries.
The President of Poland Andrzej Duda and his wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda took honorary patronage over the concert.
